Last year’s reemergence of the Toyota Supra was a big surprise for sports-car lovers, and the 2021 Toyota Supra has even more surprises, like having the all-new Supra reimagined as the Batmobile! That’s right, the 2021 Supra is so cool, even caped crusaders are driving it.

In its fifth generation, and after coming back from a twenty-one-year hiatus, the Toyota Supra is living up to its expectations. What exactly are these expectations? Well, the Supra has always been fast and cool like all good sports cars should be, but it’s also made to be modified to stand out. In fact, there are already tons of kit options out there for the ’21 Supra.

Reviews of the 2020 Supra celebrated the sports car as a stalwart machine, hitting a high bar of endurance and speed, and smoothness. Since it is modeled after the BMW Z4, it’s not difficult to see why it received such high praises. But that’s not all that car drivers like about the vehicle. There’s also the look (which is nothing like a BMW) with its access curvature and low-sitting frame. The body seems to wrap around itself, undulating over the wheelbase and under the hood then back around again. Throw in its proven endurance and the fact that the new Supra can be modified in just about a million ways, and you have yourself a nice little sports car.

Supra the New Batmobile?

Toyota wanted a sports car that runs as good as the best out there, but one that can also be modified to fit the mood and style of the driver. You can have it your way—keep it as is, or change it up.

Change it up, is just what respected digital automotive designer, Ted Li, did when he reimagined the Toyota Supra as something a little…different. Something a little Batmobile-esque. Working for places like Harvard and Google, and excelling in both, has garnered Ted Li notoriety, but his most recent revelation has people really excited.

Mr. Li brought a few designs to the table, each of them showing a futuristic take on the signature curved design of the Supra. We are not sure of the engine type just yet, but it will most likely be the BMW-sourced inline-six.

The first of the inspired cars is an elongated machine with plenty of futuristic flare, and even though we can only currently view it from the back, it is clearly striking and looks to have similar curves and design features as the Batmobile.

The second is less car and more lifted, off-roading machine. Its angular panels over the body bring sharp contrast to the natural curves of the Supra, and it ends up looking like something that would be roving over the surface of the moon. In other words, it looks like one of the toughest vehicles ever created here on earth. Clearly, forward-thinkers and designers like Ted Li, Elon Musk, and Toyota have a certain design, or at least a rough archetype of the design, that these futuristic trucks and off-roaders will look like. Tesla’s Cybertruck, Ted Li’s supersized Supra, both are full of sharp, tight angles and a tank-like stance. If this truck-SUV-moon walker vehicle were to make its way into a new Batman movie it definitely would not seem out of place.

There is no official word on if these vehicles will be used in any new Batman movies, but the timing is a bit curious with the new film coming out soon—and the possibility of more to come.

A Quick Look at the 2021 Supra (for those who don’t wear capes)

The 2021 Toyota Supra comes in four versions: the 2.0, 3.0, Premium, and the A91. They obviously all have their strengths and features, but they all—even the entry-level 2.0—fit the bill of a worthwhile sports car.

Starting with the 2.0 Supra, it comes with a turbo-4 engine and 255 horsepower. Its speed and quickness are impressive, to say the least, and this option does save a bit on fuel cost. This smooth operator comes in rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic (the ONLY critique we have of the new Supras is that none of the versions come with a manual transmission option). It gets up to 60 miles-per-hour in just 5 seconds, and it tops out at a speed of 155 mph.

The 3.0 Supra operates with a turbo-6 and 382 horsepower, which provides a noticeable difference from the 2.0. This one has that extra zip to it, which is too much for some, but just right for those speed-demons. Speaking of, the 3.0 version hits 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. It comes with a five-link rear suspension, which is rather stiff and helps with the handling and control of the car, especially at high speeds.

A few more noteworthy pieces of information on the 2021 Toyota Supra you should know before your buy:

  • All the safety and tech gear for the all-new Supra (standard automatic emergency braking and a standard 8.8-inch Infotainment touchscreen) are supplied by BMW.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay is optional (at additional cost) on base models, as well as, blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control.
  • At the $50,000 price range, the high-end Supra comes with wireless smartphone charging, heated leather seats, and 500-watt audio.

Color Options

Driving a sports car is a bold statement. This is not to imply anyone driving a sports car is enduring his or her midlife crisis, but rather that sporting around in a new Supra says something about you. It shows you like to have fun, maybe you like to live on the edge a bit—but not too dangerously. Driving a Supra says you did your research and, for the price and power and beauty, the Supra is the best choice out there.

So to go along with your bold choice, choose something that pops! Toyota has come out with some great colors for the 2021 Supra—you might find yourself having a difficult time deciding which one you like best. Here are the options:

  • Absolute Zero
  • Nitro Yellow
  • Nocturnal
  • Renaissance Red 2.0
  • Tungsten
  • Turbulence Gray
  • Refraction

The technology of the New Supra

Lastly, we have to mention the technology features on the 2021 Supra, because what is a sports car if it isn’t up-to-date with all the techy bells and whistles.

Here is a list of a few featured tech specs to the new Supras:

  • Supra Connect. This is a technology suite that includes automatic emergency calling; real-time traffic information; roadside assistance; concierge services; a battery guard that actually emails you when your battery is low; and advanced iPhone connectivity (that allows you to lock/unlock doors and more).
  • Integrated Navigation. Using the high-resolution, 8.8-inch touchscreen, drivers can get turn-by-turn navigation quickly and easily.
  • Qi-Compatible Wireless Charging. This is a highly-innovative charging system that allows you to simply lay your phone on the charging station for a super-fast charge. No cords to get tangled or frayed. Simply set your phone down and let your Supra do the work.
  • Head-Up Display. Using the same technology seen in fighter jets, the Head-Up Display projects full-color imagery of important information directly in front of you while you drive. With just a quick look you are able to see your speed, navigation information, and much more.

Pickup trucks are still the backbone of the American auto industry. They’re still the best-selling vehicle segment—by far. And in 2021, standard capabilities on every mainstream pickup are significantly more impressive than they were even five years ago.

If you’re in the market for a new pickup truck this year, you may be researching and trying to determine which model is best for your needs. Well, Mount Airy Toyota has you covered. Below, we’ll take a brief look at some of America’s most popular full-size and mid-size pickups to help you come to a sound decision.

Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is about as solid as you can get in a full-size truck. Though criticized for its aging platform and underpinnings, the truth is the Tundra offers more standard features than some of its competitors, particularly when it comes to driver-assist technology. And the backseat cabin space is massive, which is quite rare for a pickup truck.

Every 2021 Tundra comes with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, and you don’t have to worry about lack of power or off-road ability—even if you choose the base model. Of course, if off-roading is one of your primary concerns, then going with the TRD Pro grade is sure to knock your socks off!

Toyota Tacoma

This truck doesn’t need much of an introduction, as its notorious reputation for reliability, rugged styling, and off-road performance has solidified it as the top-selling mid-size pickup years over. Plus, the wide variety of safety features doesn’t hurt, either.

All and all, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma is everything you’d want in a mid-size pickup, whether you’re using it for your daily commute, on the job site, or off the beaten path. Like the Tundra, the Tacoma still comes in its TRD Pro variant, which soars with off-road capability. Consumers can choose between a 2.7-liter I-4 engine and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine.

Ram 1500

There’s no doubt the Ram 1500 is a good pickup truck. It has plenty of features, a nice interior, and exceptional ride and handling. One of the biggest selling points for the 2021 Ram 1500 is the available EcoDiesel V-6 engine, which comes with lots of power and torque while also remaining reasonably fuel-efficient. However, the Ram 1500’s exterior styling is borderline boring, and it comes with a hefty price tag.

Ford F-150

Like the Tacoma, the Ford F-150 has a long reputation of topping the sales charts in its segment. Though the exterior changes are minimal, the 2021 F-150 comes with several upgrades in terms of performance and interior styling. For example, a new 430-hp hybrid powertrain that produces 570 lb-ft of torque is available, which falls somewhere in the middle of the class for fuel efficiency, and the front row of seats can convert into a work table. However, you have to pay a premium for most of the F-150’s best features.

Ford Ranger

The F-150’s little brother, the Ford Ranger, is a sharp-looking truck. It’s also tied for top-of-class in fuel efficiency. A powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine comes standard on all 2021 Ranger models, as does a responsive transmission. Though it’s an attractive vehicle, it fails to measure up to the legend status of the Tacoma in terms of styling, performance, and reliability.

Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado is capable and versatile. It can tow a lot, and you can choose between several different powertrains. Perhaps the most impressive engine on the 2021 Silverado is the 6.2-liter V-8 that pushes 420 hp; this engine offers quick acceleration and decent fuel efficiency. Moreover, the Silverado is available with various trailer-assist features. One thing that could improve on the Silverado is its harsh ride. And it seems to be bested by its rivals in overall value.

Chevrolet Colorado

In contrast to the Silverado, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado offers great value. In a world without the Tacoma, the Colorado might be king of the mid-size segment. It offers a smooth and quiet ride, exceptional handling, and impressive towing capabilities. Also, the truck bed is really easy to access. Three different engines are available; equipped with the 2.8-liter diesel I-4 engine, the Colorado is tied with the Ford Ranger and GMC Canyon for being the most fuel-efficient in the mid-size pickup category.

Conclusion

There are several pickup trucks worth considering, whether you need a full-size or a mid-size. One thing to factor in, however, is how long you plan to drive the truck. No vehicle is more reliable than a Toyota. If you hope to keep your pickup for the next several decades (or resell it for the highest price possible), going with the 2021 Tundra or 2021 Tacoma is your best bet. And we have plenty of models here at Mount Airy Toyota, so give us a call!

Toyota has plans to introduce a family of electric vehicles by 2025, with the first of them to be revealed in 2021! That’s right, Toyota is creating all-electric cars and crossovers and at Mount Airy Toyota, we are so excited we can hardly contain it.

Electric cars are not the wave of the future—they are the rage now! Any car company worth its salt either has all-electric cars in the works or currently has them on the roads. Though the adoption of all-electric has been slow over the years, car companies like Toyota are making the pivot to e-vehicles because they understand the only reason car drivers are tip-toeing towards the idea of driving electric is because it’s a new concept. Anytime new technology is introduced, people become wary of it—especially when that technology is to replace something we have grown accustomed to using. We don’t like change, even when that change is for the better.

Toyota knows another piece of very important information: though we may be wary of it, once we spend a little time with a new, safer method of driving, we will become obsessed. And when you see what Toyota is about to unleash, in terms of electric vehicles, obsession will certainly ensue.

Introducing the e-TNGA

It’s true, Toyota does have plans to reveal an entire family of e-vehicles, and it’s also true that the first of those will be revealed this year. The e-TNGA (named after the modular architecture of the electrical system used) will be an all-electric SUV crossover. This will be Toyota’s first e-vehicle to be released in the U.S.

Unfortunately, Toyota is keeping a lot of the details about the e-TNGA close to the vest—for instance, the company has only released a simple silhouette of the vehicle—but we did some digging and found out a few important details.

First of all, the silhouette doesn’t give much away, but we can tell that the e-TNGA will be a rather squatted, sleek, and cool looking vehicle with very modern aerodynamics. We also know that Toyota chose to use the e-TNGA framework (this framework has been used for a number of Toyota vehicles, namely hybrids) because it is so versatile. The electric crossover will have a dual motor, an all-wheel-drive powertrain, and a modular battery pack.

Toyota has big aspirations for its new line of e-vehicles, as they plan to sell 5.5 million electric vehicles every year by 2025. There’s no denying it, electric cars are here, and they are only going to become more prevalent.

The Benefits of Driving an Electric Vehicle

There are obvious reasons why e-vehicles are beneficial—lower cost of fuel and maintenance are the first to come to mind—but chances are, there are more reasons than what you might think. Here are some important things to consider if you are still a bit wary of making the switch from gas to electric:

1. Environmentally, a Much Better Option

Electric vehicles produce less pollution than gas-powered vehicles by reducing harmful exhaust emissions (in fact, e-vehicles have zero exhaust emissions!).

Another environmental benefit to driving e-vehicles is that you can drastically reduce your greenhouse gas emissions by recharging the vehicle with a solar PV system during the day rather than using energy from a grid. You can also take it a step further and purchase Green Power from your local electricity company. This way, no matter when you charge your vehicle, the electricity transferred has minimal toxic emissions.

That’s not all! Since electric vehicles tend to be produced in a more eco-friendly manner (with recycled materials, and with the absence of toxic materials needed for gas-powered vehicles) you are promoting a safer lifestyle and environment the moment you purchase one.

2. Improved Safety Features
Since electric vehicles have a low center of gravity, it makes them less likely to roll over. And, because there are fewer working parts and an absence of gasoline and other highly-flammable materials, they have a much lower risk for fires or explosions.

3. A Healthier Driver
Reducing the output of harmful exhaust emissions is a big deal. Better air quality certainly leads to a reduction in health problems, as well as, overall costs due to air pollution. And it’s not only air pollution electric vehicles reduce. Because e-vehicles are drastically quieter than gas-powered drivers, noise is less of an issue as well.

4. Less Expensive to Run
Running costs are incredibly low with an e-vehicle. The power to charge an EV takes about a third as much effort as it does when gassing one up at the tank. This may not seem like a big deal, but consider years of driving an EV, and with more and more people adding to the equation, the energy used to charge a vehicle is less than it takes when filling up the tank.
There are plenty more benefits to driving an electric vehicle, but let’s take a minute and have a look at some of the reasons people shy away from purchasing and driving EVs.

Fears of Going Electric

One of the biggest issues for potential EV drivers is what’s called, “range anxiety.” Since the typical range of an all-electric vehicle is less than most gas-powered vehicles, this concern is valid. But, it is important to think of why there is such a difference in range. The biggest reason is there are simply not as many charging ports as there are gas stations; however, this is changing—and at a very fast pace. Charging ports are popping up all over the country (in grocery store parking lots, on the sides of highways) while electric vehicles are simultaneously being created that can go for longer distances.

With that said, most modern all-electric vehicles can currently cover the average driver’s daily commute, including a few joy rides, without a problem.

Another common concern with EVs is the amount of time it takes to charge them. It is true that it takes much longer to charge your car than to gas it up, but keep these things in mind: one charge can (typically) handle a daily commute; charging times are continually decreasing as advancements are made in the technology used to charge; and, a 15-20 minute charge will, for most cars, allow for a couple of hundred miles.

One other issue often voiced is that the batteries powering every aspect of the car will eventually wear out, and once the battery is out, the car is rendered useless. What this thinking fails to consider is the fact that the life of most gas-powered cars is between 150,000-200,00 miles (and a lot of money spent on gas and maintenance in-between), and the projected mileage of EVs is to be anywhere from 350,000-500,000 miles. That’s a big difference and huge savings.

Operating under a single power source (the car’s battery) drastically reduces the possibility of having to pay for all the common maintenance that arises with gas-powered vehicles—all those moving parts create so many more possibilities for something to go wrong.

The Future of Toyota

As stated earlier, Toyota has plans for an entire family or fleet of all-electric vehicles to be fully unleashed by 2025. This is the venerated car company’s first big move towards electric, but it’s no real surprise. For years, Toyota has been making and releasing all-electric transportation devices (scooters and micro-cars, mostly) in Japan. It’s clear the company has been playing with and perfecting electric motors on all sorts of levels for some time, and it’s very exciting to think about what will be coming from them in the future.

At Mount Airy Toyota, we are looking forward to the wave of the future—it’s electric! Come in today to see what we have to offer in gas-powered, electric-hybrids, and all-electric vehicles today.

Rarely is buying a vehicle a simple, straightforward process. Usually, it involves a significant amount of research, deciding between a bevy of models, and determining how to work it in your budget while saving as much money as possible.

One factor that many consumers consider is when to buy a car. After all, there is a lot of information out there that suggests the optimal times for walking into a dealership, broken down by days of the week, months, holidays, and more. Though it’s hard to predict what kind of price you’ll get at any given time, there’s one stretch of time that proves to be a great time to buy a new vehicle: the end of the year.

Indeed, if you decide to make your big purchase as the year comes to a close, chances are pretty good that you’ll find at least some decent deals and probably some great ones. Of course, you don’t want to rush into a decision only to drive away in a vehicle that you later regret purchasing. Below, we’ll get into what makes the end of the year such a good time to buy a car, as well as some practical advice for ensuring it’s the right time for you.

Buying at End of the Calendar Year

As previously, mentioned, there are several times throughout the year when you can consistently find deals and incentives for a new vehicle. The end of any given month is often the best time to visit a dealership, especially if you get a salesperson who has yet to meet their quota for the month. This could leave them more likely to make a deal with you. As far as which months to buy a vehicle, October, November, and December are the best. This is because dealerships are trying to make room for new inventory of cars from the next model year. Plus, in November, you have Black Friday. Just like with retailers, this can be a big holiday for dealership sales and promotions.

By the time December comes around, the stage is set for a perfect storm of savings. Monthly, quarterly, and yearly quotas must be met by salespeople. And dealerships are more eager to move vehicles from the previous model year to stock their lots with the newest models available. And New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are bound to see some significant discounts.

Buying at the End of the Model Year

Indeed, one of the biggest advantages you have when shopping for a vehicle at the end of the calendar year is that dealerships are trying to make room for new stock. This means that they may be more willing to offer deep discounts on cars that are at the end of their model year. Not only can you score a great price on a new vehicle this way, but manufacturers often provide other incentives on outgoing model year vehicles to get them off dealer lots. These incentives could include anything from 0% interest to cashback offers to good lease deals.

The opportunities for savings at the end of a model year hold true whether or not the vehicle you are purchasing has undergone any significant design changes for the new model year. Dealers always find it easier to sell “next year’s model.” This is excellent news for you, as long as you don’t care about having the upgrades offered by next year’s model. After all, you’re still getting a brand-new vehicle!

Making Sure It’s the Right Decision

No matter how good of a deal you get on a new car, you want it to be the right financial decision for you and your family. Preparation is key here. You need to know your credit score so that you can estimate what kind of loan you will be able to get; loans with 0% interest, for example, are typically only available to buyers with good credit. You’ll also need to have a clear understanding of your overall financial standing so that you choose a vehicle and loan that you can afford in the long run. If you haven’t had the chance to prepare your finances, consider holding off until next year.

The end of the year is truly a great time to buy a new vehicle. Consider the benefits, and look over your finances so that you can make the best decision for you and your family. In the world of full-sized pickup trucks, there are a select few with histories of continued durability and power. Among these, the venerated Toyota Tundra has proven itself as a top contender by continually, year after year, supplying pickup truck drivers with something rough and tough, yet also something smooth and modern. What’s next for the Toyota Tundra? Recently, Mount Airy Toyota found some interesting information out about what’s in store for the Tundra—and the future looks pretty exciting!

Truck drivers shopping for a full-sized pickup usually have a specific reason for such a vehicle. These types of trucks are not for the casual truck driver. They are made to work well under serious conditions and to produce time and again. Full-sized trucks can pull and haul just about anything to anywhere, and right now, the Toyota Tundra is leading the market in big pickups.

Maybe it’s because the Tundra handles as well as a smaller truck but packs a lot more power; or, maybe it’s because stalwart V-8 engine it comes with—or even the hybrid V6. The truth is, the Tundra leads the pack for a number of reasons, and it’s only going to get better.

What’s Next For the Tundra?

Toyota likes to keep their information close to the chest, but we were able to glean some exciting news about the next versions of the Toyota Tundra. And even though we do not know exactly when the next generation of Tundras will arrive, we hope to see it this year or next. Production of the next Tundra generation will continue the full-sized truck’s title as the oldest full-sized pickup truck on the market.

Though images of the newest version of the truck (the 2021 and the 2022 model versions) usually show the truck drabbed in cloth and stickers and anything that keeps the public from seeing its fresh face and body, a few of the truck’s elements were impossible to hide. From what we saw, the grille to the truck is modernized with large horizontal slats that help maintain that rugged, tough feel the Tundra has always had.

The headlights look to be big LEDs, and the tires do not show size but sure look massive! Currently, 20-inch wheels are available on the Tundra, but there is a chance Toyota is wanting to go bigger to provide a more luxurious ride to the Tundra. This would make sense, as the Tundra is in constant competition with other luxury truck brands, such as Ford, RAM, and GM, all of which are going the way of a chunkier tire.

What is really exciting is the rumors of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 hybrid version of the Tundra, which would serve as a perfect competitor to the all-new Ford F-150 PowerBoost.

Tundra—The V6 Hybrid Version

It can be difficult to weed through all the anonymous tips leaked about the next generation of Tundras. Not everything shared and read is true, and some information may change over time, but one thing we have heard over and over from reliable sources is that there will be an optional 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that will receive extra power from some sort of electric component. This engine could produce around 450 horsepower and something close to 500 pound-feet of torque.

With the addition of a hybrid model, the Toyota Tundra will change its global truck platform to a code of “F1.” This code indicates that a truck has hybrid components that help lower greenhouse gas emissions, something that the execs at Toyota’s headquarters have been hinting at considering for some time now. The option of a hybrid full-sized Tundra would be a big move for the brand. Right now there are only two engines offered with the Tundra: a 4.6-liter, V8 that has 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque; and a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the 5.7-liter engine offers E85 flex-fuel capability.

How did Toyota come up with the idea for this type of hybrid engine for the Tundra? Well, as mentioned earlier, Toyota execs have been hinting at the idea for a hybrid Tundra, and apparently, they have had their eyes on the Lexus LS 500, which runs on a very similar type of hybrid engine.

This is good news because car enthusiasts now have a model to base the engine’s performance on—and the Lexus LS 500’s engine has done quite well. The Lexus sedan uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 (just like the new Tundra is rumored to have) that offers 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. What’s interesting is that the LS 500 uses a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 that makes 295 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque completely on its own. The inclusion of the electric motor allows for an additional 177 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, but it does so without drinking up all the vehicle’s fuel.

If the new Tundras do indeed come with an optional hybrid engine, swapping what is offered now (a 6-speed automatic for a 10-speed automatic) could offer incredible savings at the gas pump—possibly even up to 30 miles to the gallon.

A Quick Comparison

No matter what Toyota decides to do with the next generation of Tundras, it is worth looking at what the Tundra has accomplished so far. And what better way to do that than to set the Tundra up, side by side, with another famous contender, the GMC Sierra.

Which is the more reliable, the faster, the longest-lasting, the better truck? The GMC Sierra or the Toyota Tundra? This question is leaving full-sized pickup truck drivers in a bit of a pickle lately, as both trucks have been cited as two of the best in their class.

If you are able to reduce the many full-sized pickup options out there down to the GMC Sierra and Toyota Tundra, you have probably done your research. But, there are a few extra questions you can ask yourself to help make this decision a little easier if you are currently in need of a worthy full-sized truck.

Question 1: What kind of power do you need? Both trucks are incredibly tough, but they have their differences. With the Tundra you get more speed, as it is capable of going from 0-60 in just 6 seconds! (Hard to believe a big truck can get going that fast, but it’s true—the Tundra does it with ease.) There’s just no ignoring it, the Tundra moves well for such a large vehicle.

The GMC Sierra, however, has an engine that is able to deliver up to 420 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque, but it doesn’t quite have the speed. Since the Tundra already offers almost as much in terms of horsepower and torque, the additional speed takes it over the top for us. Power and speed working together, that’s the kind of truck that gets things done.

Question 2: What sort of features do you like best? Both trucks are leaders among their peers in technology, but these features vary between the two. The Tundra comes with Toyota’s Entune app suite, which includes Bluetooth, music, and mobile apps. The Tundra also comes standard with a rearview camera and is packed full of safety features and additional technology for those techy truck drivers who are looking for something great for towing and navigating through tuff terrain all-the-while using the most up-to-date technology on the market.

The GMC Sierra comes with the respected IntelliLink system, which allows a wireless 4G LTE hotspot, and can connect up to seven mobile devices. There are options for more technology and safety features, but we found that the Tundra simply offers more.

Whether you are looking to buy now or you plan on waiting to see what the next generation of Toyota Tundras reveals, Mount Airy Toyota is the place to find out everything you need to know. Not only are we up on all the latest gossip about the next Tundras, but we also have a plethora of current Tundra trucks for you to choose from. Come see us today, schedule a test drive, and find that perfect full-sized pickup for you.

Nothing beats cruising down the road with your windows down, blaring your favorite music as you let go of all your worries for just a moment. OK, so if your road trip is taking place during winter, the windows-down part might not be a thing. But the music can still happen!

There are countless playlists and stations that span across various music platforms for streaming and listening, and it can be difficult to know which are the best ones. After all, analyzing all of them would take hours upon hours, and you probably have plenty of other things to focus on as you plan your road trip. That’s why we’ve done the heavy lifting for you. Below, we’ll discuss some of the best playlists and stations we’ve found and cover the benefits of using four of the most popular streaming/listening platforms—SiriusXM, Pandora, and Spotify.

THE BEST PLAYLISTS AND STATIONS OF 2020

Before you determine which music platforms to use for your road trip, let’s see a little bit of what each has to offer:

SiriusXM

There are well over a thousand stations on SiriusXM, so the ones that you listen to will depend on the type of music and entertainment you enjoy most. If you like listening to modern Top 40 music, stations like The Pulse and SiriusXM Hits 1 might float your boat. You can also choose pop music stations by the decade, such as ‘50s on 5, ’60s on 6, ‘70s on 7, and so on.

If rock music is more your speed for traveling, check out Classic Rewind, Lithium, or Alt Nation. For hip hop fans, stations like Hip Hop Nation and The Heat are very popular, as are The Highway and Willie’s Roadhouse for country listeners. There are also plenty of stations that cater to other types of genres like dance/electronica, talk, and sports.

Pandora

With Pandora, you can either stream current radio schedules or record shows for listening later. And there are a lot of great shows and stations for enjoying either of these functions. For instance, Family Road Trip Radio is perfect for those with children in tow, as it offers a mix of pop, rock, reggae, classic rock, children’s music, and other genres. Country Road Trip Radio plays songs from Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, and other top country artists. And if you’re looking for a great sing-along experience with others in the vehicle, try Lip Sync Road Trip Radio, which plays everything from Queen to The Fugees.

Spotify

Spotify is strictly a music-streaming service, which means that you listen to whatever song you like at any time, rather than having to wait for a song to come on or record a show. While there are millions of songs to choose from, maybe you would rather sit back and enjoy the work that curators have put into their playlists. Indie Rock Road Trip contains songs from Local Natives, Vampire Weekend, Freedom Fry, and other popular indie artists. The Road Trip playlist is tailored more for college-age drivers with the likes of Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Charli XCX controlling the waves. And Rockin’ Road Trip will provide you with songs by artists like ZZ Top, Bloc Party, and The Wild Feathers.

THE BEST MUSIC PLATFORMS

Now that you have an idea of what each of these platforms has to offer in terms of music and entertainment, let’s briefly look at their benefits:

SiriusXM

The biggest advantage of using SiriusXM is that, unlike Pandora and Spotify, you don’t need to use data or download content. It works just like traditional radio except there are more options—like, a lot more options.

Pandora

Pandora offers both a free and premium option for users. The free service allows you to create playlists and curate your stations over time, though you will have to deal with ads and you can only skip six songs per hour.

With Pandora Plus ($4.99/month), you don’t have to worry about ads and you can skip as many songs as you like, as well as rewind songs. And if you want to go all the way, choose Pandora Premium ($9.99/month), which allows for unlimited mobile playback and customizable playlists, among many other features.

Spotify

Spotify also allows users to create a free or premium account. When it comes to radio functions and discovering artists, Pandora has the upper hand. But Spotify generally offers more in every other category. For example, the free Spotify service allows you to listen to any song you want on-demand (though you’ll still have ads). If you upgrade to Spotify Premium ($9.99/month), you can listen to almost any song you can think of in top-notch sound quality, you don’t have to sit through ads, and you can listen offline.

Conclusion

When you’re in the midst of planning your road trip, don’t forget to prepare for your music and entertainment along the way. Look into SiriusXM, Pandora, and Spotify to determine which platform(s) will most enhance your travels, and consider the stations and playlists mentioned here. Finally, keep researching because there are a plethora of stations and playlists that might be the perfect fit for you and your family!

What does matter is keeping your vehicles in shape and prepped for the cold weather ahead of us. Come check out some of the unbeatable service special Mount Airy Toyota is offering this season.

The great thing about our vehicles, old or new, is that if you take the time to keep them maintained, they will last much much longer. Showing your car just a little love goes a long way, which is why we don’t just encourage you to come see us for your service needs, we also offer the best prices in town.

Check out these deals:

  • Oil and Filter Change. When the weather gets cold, so does the oil in your car. And if the oil is not fresh and pure, it becomes difficult for your engine to work with which, in turn, can cause some major damage in the long run. Right now we are offering $29.95 regular oil changes and $39.95 synthetic oil changes.
  • Battery Replacement. Nobody wants to be left out in the cold due to a dead car battery. Extreme weather asks a lot of your car, and if your battery is old or corroded, it’s simply not worth the risk of getting stuck out in the elements. This is why we are offering a battery replacement only at $95.95, which includes installation, a 60-month warranty, and an 18-month free replacement.
  • Wiper Blade Replacement. With cold weather approaching, you can count on icy roads, which results in salt and sludge. Nothing makes your windshield wipers work harder than dirt and grime buildup. Stop in today and we’ll even install them for you! Act now and get brand new blades for only $19.95.
  • Brake Pad Inspection. Needless to say, your brakes are important. At Mount Airy Toyota, we can take a look at your existing brakes and let you know about how much longer you have until you will need new pads. And if you happen to need them right then, we can take care of that too. But act now to receive a FREE inspection! And if they are in need of changing, we have plenty of options to offer.

And there are even more specials running:

  • 15% Off Tundra & Tacoma Accessories.
  • Touch-Up Paint  $9.95—ball-pen top for scratches requiring pin-point application and brush top for chips and scratches that need broader strokes.
  • Free Check Engine Light Analysis—free scanning by one of our professionally trained Toyota Certified mechanics. We can test to check for codes and code interpretation.
  • Free Tire Alignment!
  • Tire rotation for $9.95—includes checking and setting tire pressures, along with a visual inspection of the brake pads and rotors for wear.

As you can tell, we have amped our service specials for this year, and we’re pretty excited about it.

Stay in Control: How to Drive in Winter Weather

Winter snow can be beautiful and a lot of fun. But when it comes to driving in it there are many potential dangers that, if prepared for in advance, can be avoided. This being said, it is shocking how many drivers do not prepare themselves for these possibly treacherous conditions. Here are two basic rules that can keep you safe while driving this winter season:

  1. Anticipate what is ahead. Driving on ice and snow requires smooth, precise, and careful control of the steering wheel. Try and keep your wheels straight as much as possible, and when you do have to turn, slowly turn the wheel—this will require you to anticipate turns ahead of time so that you do not end up sliding into other lanes, or worse, off the road. Just remember, you want to avoid any sharp movements of your vehicle. Slow and steady gets you there safely.
  2. Know your stopping distances. Slowing down, for upcoming turns or otherwise, requires much more distance when driving on snow or ice. Be sure that you have clear visibility of road signs, stoplights, and other cars so that you can break well before you reach them. When you do apply the brakes, keep your heal on the floor and softly press the brake peddle with the ball of your foot. Again, try and keep your steering as straight as possible to avoid any skidding. If you do happen to hit a patch of ice and feel the vehicle begin to slip, start pumping the brakes by letting off the peddle and pressing (softly) it back down over and over until you regain control of the vehicle. If this does happen, be sure to remain calm and keep your movements soft and slow.

With braking and steering under control, drivers can navigate through snow and ice in a controlled and safe way. A word to the wise though, beware of other drivers who do not know these two rules—you can recognize them by their jerky movements and inability to keep from skidding—and keep as much distance between you and them as possible.

The Toyota RAV4

Recently, AMCI conducted certified tests to see which vehicles operated at the highest levels while driving in the ice and snow. Many vehicles were chosen for these tests, but only a few were tough enough to make it to the top of the list. So who made it? There were a variety of vehicles that did well, but performing best in acceleration, traction, and handling in these treacherous conditions was the all-wheel-drive Toyota Rav4.

What really impressed the judges at AMCI was the Rav4’s ability to go from 0 to 50 mph quickly on snow, and with minimal slippage. It was also able to stop short on ice while going 30 mph. But that’s not all: the Rav4 continued to pique interest by showing top cornering performance on snow, as well as providing top of the line evasive-action performance.

These top markings for the Rav4 are due to Toyota’s highly innovative AWD technology, which includes the intricately designed Dynamic Torque Control system. This system, along with the electric power steering mechanisms, helps enhance the driving experience by monitoring and controlling torque transfer between wheels—all four of the wheels—and uses input from a variety of sensors to keep the vehicle moving.

  • Picking up your car is just as easy. Once you receive a text from us saying your vehicle is ready, head to the pickup lot to find your clean, serviced vehicle waiting for you—simply grab and go!

At Mount Airy Toyota, we service all makes and all models of vehicles because we want everyone traveling safely this winter. Come see us, visit us online, or give Will or Russ a call today to get your car ready for the cold weather this season.

Since its arrival in the 2006 model year, the Toyota Highlander has consistently been a favorite among family drivers. The 2020 version of the midsize SUV builds on this reputation with an all-new design that leaves little to be desired. Along with sleek and beautiful style, it provides plenty of function—a blend well-known to Toyota fans and one that bridges the gap between ultimate luxury and affordability.

The three-row SUV can comfortably seat seven or eight passengers. Consumers can choose between five trims—from the base L (which includes an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat and eight-inch infotainment touchscreen, among other luxuries) to the Platinum (which sports features like heated second-row seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and surround-view camera). There’s also a hybrid version that is the most climate-friendly vehicle on the market. And of course, any model you go with will have inherited Toyota’s notorious resale value.

Below, we’ll discuss some of what’s new with the 2020 Highlander as well as some of the features that are returning. That way, you can decide for yourself if it’s the vehicle for your family this Fall!

The New

As popular as the 2019 Highlander was, the 2020 models see some impressive improvements. Along with the power-adjustable driver’s seat and eight-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility now come standard. Also, more safety features, like road sign recognition, are standard, and a 12.3-inch screen is a new option. Moreover, Toyota has added cargo room to the 2020 Highlander, which includes 6.1 extra cubic feet behind the second row and 2.2 more behind the third row.

Powertrain, Performance, and Fuel Economy

The 2020 Highlander is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower—including the base model, which came with a four-cylinder in previous years. This V6 engine is matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All models come standard with front-wheel drive with all-wheel-drive as an option. Acceleration is not a problem for the Highlander, the handling is stable, and the ride is especially smooth for a midsize SUV.

New for 2020, you can choose between two variants for the Highlander Hybrid. One is an all-wheel-drive setup where the rear wheels are powered by an electric motor. The other is a front-wheel-drive setup. Each is joined by a four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and 35 to 36 MPG can be expected.

There is much debate about whether or not it’s worth the money to go with a hybrid vehicle. When it comes down to it, the Toyota Highlander is a great choice, whether you choose a gas-powered or hybrid model. The former may save you some money upfront, while the latter may save you money in the long run. So, it really comes down to how long you plan on driving the vehicle and how important fuel efficiency is to you.

Safety Tech

Toyota has a reputation for offering some of the best safety technology on the market, and they have kept pushing the boundaries with the 2020 Highlander, which comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 on all models. This suite of features includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control. Also included is a lane-departure warning with Lane Tracing Assist—a signature Toyota feature that helps the vehicle stay in the middle of the lane when cruise control is engaged. Front and rear parking assists, blindspot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alerts are available on the higher trims.

Prices

Even though there have been significant improvements made for the 2020 Highlander models, the pricing hasn’t been increased much. The L starts at $34,600 MSRP (and an extra $1,120 for destination). The LE and XLE begin at $36,000 and $39,600, respectively. That leaves the top two gas-powered models: The Highlander Limited comes in at $43,650 while the Platinum starts at $46,850. On the Hybrid side of things, you have the $38,200 LE front-wheel-drive and the $48,250 Platinum all-wheel-drive. And remember, the unmatched resale value that comes with a Toyota purchase must be considered.

Conclusion

When it comes to family-friendly SUVs, the 2020 Toyota Highlander is hard to beat. Not only does the all-new design make a bold-yet-tasteful statement, but it provides some of the best performance, fuel economy, and safety you could ask for in a midsize SUV. While the Highlander has long been a great vehicle, there’s no question that the changes made for 2020 have taken it to the next level. We recommend coming by Mount Airy Toyota to see for yourself!

It’s Tire Month at Mount Airy Toyota!

Oct 12, 2020
By Andrae Bergeron

Worn, old, or even cheaply-made tires can be hazardous to your vehicle’s handling and fuel efficiency, not to mention it is incredibly dangerous to drive with bad tires: a blow out while driving is sure to turn your knuckles white as you grip the steering wheel to try and navigate your vehicle to the side of the road. Luckily, Mount Airy Toyota’s Service Center can get you the exact replacements you need and at a very competitive price.

Our factory-trained and certified Toyota technicians will ensure that your tires are mounted, balanced, and inflated to match your Toyota vehicle’s specifications.

What makes November tire month? With that hot summer behind us and a cold winter ahead of us, this is the most important time to check your tires. Drastic seasonal change means drivers need to be sure their tires can handle the cooling weather. During those hot spring and summer months, your car’s tires were worn and stretched from changes in air pressure, and extreme heat—like what we experience here in the South—tends to cause dry rot.

Before your next car ride, complete the following steps to make sure you don’t end up stranded:

  1. Check the tire pressure and if any are low get them filled right away. If a tire, or tires, are extremely low we recommend not driving it unless there is a service station nearby. Otherwise, it’s a good idea to have someone come and fill your low tires.
  2. Have your tires rotated regularly. Our service department can keep your tires lasting as long as possible with regular rotations and check-ups.
  3. Have your tires professionally aligned. Anytime you get new tires or have been driving on the same ones for a year or so, it’s a good idea to have them checked and aligned.
  4. Keep an eye on the tread of each tire. (More on this in a minute.)
  5. Make sure your spare is in good repair. You hope to never need your spare, but if the time ever comes when you do need it, make sure it is full and ready for use.

Do I Need New Tires?

The Penny Test just got a lot more expensive; time for the Quarter Test. If you aren’t aware of the Penny Test, this was a method used to check the tread in tires to see if they need replacing. The test is taking a penny, turning it upside down so the top of Honest Abe’s head is pointed towards the car tire’s tread. Press the penny between the rows and see how much of his head is visible. The more of his head you can see, the better the chance you need new tires.

This test is still a valid way to check your tires, but instead of using a penny, it has been found that a quarter is more accurate at finding the standard minimum depth of 4/32.”

Winter Tires

Not everyone needs snow tires, but anywhere there is a possibility of ice or snow—even the slightest chance—we advise looking into purchasing a set. They don’t have to be incredibly expensive, and they can help keep you safe on the road this winter. With their intricate designs and soft rubber, they grip the ice and snow for better traction.

This winter we like the Nokian Hakkapelitta. They start at around $120 per tire and are worth every penny. With Nokian, you get superior performance, especially on ice, but great traction through the snow as well. Nokian has a long history with winter tires, and creates a great one for a good price—$120 may seem a little high, but believe me, those prices can get much higher.

If you want to pay a little less, you should look at either the Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 or the Michelin X-Ice X13. Both are noted as being equally effective in winter conditions and are highly recommended for anyone who lives in areas that drop in temperature to below 45 degrees. With a price of $85 they are more than affordable, and if taken care of, will last at least three to four seasons.

Lastly, you can’t go wrong with a General Altimax Arctic. Though this suitable tire is not noted as being quite up to par with the Nokian Hakkapelitta, or the Blizzak and X-Ice, it still comes highly recommended by experts and owners alike. At around $50, it’s the best snow tire for the price, and a great option for those living in areas that don’t get a lot of snow, but do experience a little ice in the winter.

Stay safe this winter by switching into snow tires. Take good care of them with routine check-ups and change them out when needed. You won’t regret it.

Sure winter snow can be beautiful and a lot of fun. But when it comes to driving in it there are many potential dangers that, if prepared for in advance, can be avoided. This said, it is shocking how many drivers do not prepare themselves for these possibly treacherous conditions.

If you do happen to hit a patch of ice and feel the vehicle begin to slip, start to pump the brakes by letting off the peddle and pressing (softly) it back down over and over until you regain control of the vehicle.

The Toyota 4Runner and Toyota RAV4 have been two of America’s favorite SUVs for years, and with new upgrades and features, the popularity of these sleek sport utilities won’t wane any time soon.

You know when it’s time for an upgrade: various portions of your vehicle’s interior are warped and broken—some knobs and sections of armrests are completely missing; there’s that loud clunking sound that you’ve had checked out but nobody can seem to find what it is so now it serves as an embarrassing reminder that you have an old car. The paint is faded, the CD player stopped working years ago, and there’s that strange smell you can’t seem to get rid of. Yeah, it’s time.

Or maybe you already have a 4Runner or RAV4, and you love it, but you would also love to ride in something that sports new features and upgrades; maybe even try and different trim level. Regardless of your reasoning, if you are feeling the pull, Mount Airy Toyota has you covered with all the best trim levels of the Toyota RAV4 and 4Runner.

The RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 has always been an eye-catcher since it was designed well from the start: it serves as the 4Runner’s little brother with sleek curvature outside that leads to roomy space on the inside.

Here are two good reasons to upgrade to a RAV4:

  1. There are six different trim levels to choose from, and each is stylish and modern with unique features. Whether you go with the LE, XP Trail, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, or Limited you will surely have plenty of comfort, style, and technological options to choose from. Plus, there are six vibrant color options available—you could buy one in every color!
  2. Just because the RAV4 is the smaller sibling doesn’t mean it isn’t spacious. Inside, the RAV4 has two comfortable rows of seating with room for up to five people (comfortably). For stowing in the back, there are nearly forty cubit-feet of space, which allows for plenty of room for groceries, luggage, band equipment, etc.

…and here are a few more reasons:

  • 27/35 estimated miles-per-gallon
  • Comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, AppleCarPlay, and Amazon Alexa
  • Integrated backup camera with Projected Path
  • 17-inch steel wheels

There are plenty more cool features to the new Toyota RAV4, and we have plenty on the lot and online for you to look through. Now, let’s have a look at a top-of-the-line SUV, the Toyota 4Runner.

The 4Runner

Right now at Mount Airy Toyota, you can find deals on a 4Runner with incredible off-roading capability, tons of storage space, a tough V-6 engine, and optional third-row seating. This celebrated sport utility vehicle comes with a durable, boxy looking exterior with lights that slightly protrude to the side, and a front honeycombed grille. Inside, every piece of material is made to last, and there is plenty of space for you and the family. The dash is full and flowing, filled with buttons and knobs, but not at all busy—its expertly- designed frame puts everything in perfect position.

Two Reasons to Upgrade to the Toyota 4Runner:

  • The all-new 4Runner comes in ten different trim levels: SR5, Trail Special Edition, SR5 Premium, XP Predator, TRD Off-Road, Venture Special Edition, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Nighshade Edition, TRD Pro—and they all come with the same color options as the RAV4.

Because the 4Runner has had so much success over the years as one of America’s most versatile and stylish SUVs, Toyota has created tons of options for you to choose from, all of them carrying their own special strengths and styles.

The new 4Runner also comes with all the best features:

  • LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights
  • WiFi Connect
  • Available part-time 4-wheel drive
  • 17-inch, 6-spoke alloy wheels with mud/snow tires
  • Toyota Safety Sense
  • Compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

It’s hard to decide which is the better vehicle, the RAV4 or the 4Runner, so we like to think in terms of which one fits best for your situation? Need that extra room and punch, go with the bigger sibling. Rather something to zip around town in, maybe do some light off-roading? The RAV4 is your ride.

Visit us online or come test drive both vehicles and get a feel for what type of upgrade you want.
