The TRD Off-Road, Venture, and TRD Pro models all come standard with Toyota’s Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select systems, which are controlled through dials on the overhead console. Moreover, the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)—which is a sway bar system that automatically disconnects and allows for more wheel travel—comes standard on the TRD Off-Road and Venture models. Fox and TRD co-branded internal bypass shock absorbers are added to the TRD Pro. Another feature worth noting is the 4Runner’s ground clearance of 9.6-inches. Combined with its high approach and departure angles, this allows for the SUV to navigate up and over sizeable obstacles with ease. Let’s dive a little deeper into what we know about this SUV:The GistYou may have noticed that the 2021 Ford Bronco has been marketed quite heavily since last year. It is, after all, a big deal when a classic vehicle has been discontinued for decades and then reborn. The new Bronco comes in two- and four-door configurations, both of which have a removable roof and doors. Like the 4Runner (and unlike the Wrangler), it uses an independent front suspension. The Bronco has been built with off-roading in mind. Thus, drivers can expect a bevy of off-road features and capabilities to go with attractive retro aesthetics. However, the Bronco also includes a number of novel technologies, such as Ford’s fourth-generation infotainment system (Sync) and tons of accessories. For all intents and purposes, it looks like Ford is positioning “Bronco” to be a subbrand of its larger lineup of vehicles. The manufacturer has announced that it will soon release the “Bronco Sport”—a lighter-duty SUV based on the Ford Escape. New for 2021Everything about the Bronco is new. It’s built on an updated version of Ford’s midsize truck platform, which will also be used on the next generation of Rangers. The Bronco shares a base powertrain with the Ranger, including a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four rated at 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Optional is a 2.7-liter EcoBoost six-cylinder engine that’s good for 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque; this engine can be found on the F-150 XLT as well. A 10-speed automatic transmission pairs with both engines, but you can opt for a six-speed manual on the base model. Also available is a low crawler gear, which is designed to assist in certain off-roading situations where more wheel torque is needed. Notable Features There are six different trim levels for the 2021 Bronco. Off-road enthusiasts will best be served by the Black Diamond, Badlands, or Wildtrak trim. Impressive underbody protection, a locking rear differential, and low-range gearing come standard on the Black Diamond. More drive modes and other off-road features are added as you go up to the Badlands and Wildtrak trims. As previously mentioned, all Bronco models have a removable roof and doors. You can conveniently store the doors in the cargo area, though doing so reduces room for other storage considerably. Three different tops are available: a soft top, a basic hardtop, and a high-end hardtop that offers more configurations. There’s a fair share of safety features that come with the 2021 Bronco, and the infotainment system works with most off-road navigation services. 2024 Toyota Tundra 2024 is a huge year for Toyota vehicles, especially the all-new Tundra. The 2024 Toyota Tundra comes fitted with a new suspension, plenty of updated technology, a tougher and sportier design, and more available packages. But one upgrade that all our truck enthusiasts here at Mount Airy Toyota are talking about is the 2024 Tundra’s two new powertrain options–a twin-turbo V6 engine and a hybrid twin-turbo V6 engine. Twin-Turbo V6: can tow up to 12,000 pounds and comes paired with a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission; sequential shift mode; uphill/downhill shift logic; and TOW/HAUL driving modes. Hybrid Twin-Turbo V6: generates 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque; also comes paired with a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission; sequential shift mode; uphill/downhill shift logic; and TOW/HAUL driving modes. Truck drivers shopping for a full-size pickup usually have a specific reason for such a vehicle. These types of trucks are not only for the casual truck driver. New Toyota Highlander The Toyota Highlander, one of the car company’s most prominent family vehicles, comes with a few changes for 2024, but nothing too drastic (if it ain’t broke…). This year, Toyota has decided to discontinue the entry-level L trim, and it has added a hands-free power liftgate that comes in the mid-level trims. For the 2024 Highlander hybrid model, Toyota has swapped the previous Bronze edition for a new and improved Nightshade Edition. The 2024 Highlander Hybrid Nightshade Edition comes with tons of stylistic changes, the most obvious, a blacked-out grille, mirror caps, wheels, and rear badging. Nightshade is available on the Highlander Hybrid LE and XLE trim levels. It’s certainly one of the sleekest-looking vehicles on Mount Airy Toyota’s lot! This added layer of style to the new Highlander provides captivating elements for both the exterior and interior–the black seats with silver accents on the interior really make the inside pop. One thing Mount Airy Toyota customers like best about the Highlander is that it's not too big that it gets in the way, and it's not too small so that it can’t stow, pull, or haul as a sport utility vehicle should. On the road, it conserves gas, maintains an incredibly quiet ride, and its many compartments and excess space allow for premium stowage. 2024 Toyota 4Runner This year, Toyota has made major upgrades to the 2024 4Runner, most notably in terms of safety. 4Runners have always scored high in the safety department, but the newest iteration of the famed SUV is the most impressive yet. The all-new 4Runner has what Toyota calls, “Safety Sense,” a suite of safety systems designed to not only keep you safe during an accident but also to keep accidents from happening altogether. The 2024 4Runner’s safety ratings soar with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking (in case your foot can’t make it to the brake pedal in time), lane-departure alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and pedestrian pre-collision. There is also lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Our technicians at Mount Airy Toyota were most impressed with the 4Runner’s Pre-Collision System. Though the inner workings of this system are complex, using it couldn’t be easier. To help you avoid an accident, the Pre-Collision System uses advanced road-monitoring technologies to “see” the road ahead of you. Then it alerts you, the driver, in three phases: Phase 1–Alert. Once the system detects something (a vehicle, pedestrian, animal, etc.) in the direct path of the car, an audio and/or visual forward-collision warning will be triggered. This is simply to let you know there is something up ahead. Phase 2–Brake Assist. Once an object has been detected and an alert to the driver has been made, brake assist is applied to help the driver begin to slow the car. Phase 3–Automatic Braking. If the driver does not respond to phases 1-2, the 4Runner will use the Pre-Collision System to deploy automatic braking. The Toyota 4Runner has quickly, in terms of years, created a Wrangler-like cult following, and with such a bevy of features and performance levels, it isn’t difficult to see why. 2024 Toyota Prius Motortrend’s “car of the year,” the 2024 Toyota Prius is the new gold standard in hybrids. The 2024 Prius model is longer, lower, and wider and has updated headlights and taillights, giving it a sleek yet substantial look, one much sportier than ever before. Though the new exterior look might be the most obvious difference of the new Prius, the most notable update is the 2.0-liter hybrid engine. Both the hybrid engine and the electric motors seamlessly work together to provide an incredibly smooth ride. While driving the 2024 Prius, the electric motors will run, but the 2.0-liter hybrid engine will take over when the charge runs low. There’s also a larger, more energized battery that offers 52 miles per gallon and up to a 44-mile range when driving all-electric. This means you can drive from Matthews to Huntersville and back without having to use the hybrid engine at all. Hybrid and electric vehicles are being made at a rate higher than ever, and it’s no surprise, seeing how much money and energy is saved by those who choose to drive a car that you can plug in.
